Sarah Palin?

A valuable lesson for all those in the media industry. Google is not God! Check out the fatal mistake by an SBS newsreader in regards to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last week, as pointed out by Media Watch last night.

Has the media become too dependent on the internet, and in particular search engines such as Google, to source information?

Hi Josh.

Thanks for posting this up on your blog, I think its an interesting topic.

We all are becoming too reliant on the technology to do the work for us. The problem is it's just too convenient!

Sometimes search engines such as Google - particularly scholar, provide you with valuable information, however as the case on Mediawatch demonstrates it can also be a very dangerous tool.

Megan,

You nailed in one word: convenience.

At the tips of your fingers you can know more about Sarah Palin then her next door neighbour, her daughter's boyfriend and even her pet pitball.

Cool, useful and convenient, but ultimately dangerous.

Yes Josh I saw this on Media Watch, it was very interesting indeed.(At least I think it was media watch...).
I do agree that at such a credible broadcasting institution a little more research should have gone into getting that picture - I mean come on Sarah Palin's not that hot!

The internet is making everything immediate and seem a little easier than pre-digital age, and I hope that a minor mishap such as a photo is as far as the incompetency goes in the future.

Thanks,
Kristy

Spot on Kristy, too put it simply - Sarah Palin is just not that hot. End of story.

As for the online incompetency - I doubt that will be the last of it. Unfortunate, but devastatingly true in the Google age!
